^   PRAYER FOCUS FOR THE WEEK

We will remember in our prayers the church organist and the members of the choir.

^   PRAYER FOCUS: MALAWI

The drugs to help prevent mother to child transmission of HIV infection arrived a couple of weeks ago in St Luke’s Hospital where Margaret Young serves.  This was much earlier than they had anticipated.  Give thanks that several pregnant women have already come forward for testing and treatment.  Pray that others will do so, despite the stigma attached to HIV.  Remember the midwives as they add the responsibilities of this programme to an already busy work schedule.

^   CONGRATULATIONS to CHRISTINA BRADLEY

Christina has received a “Call” to be the minister of Armagh Road Presbyterian Church in Portadown.  We wish her God’s love and guidance in her new ministry.

^   Summer Outings for Seniors (SOS)

We hope to resume our 'Summer Outings for Seniors' again, every second Thursday afternoon we'll take the mini bus and go places, have fun and fellowship and enjoy an afternoon out together, generally from around 1.30pm and returning at 5.30pm.  In order to be able to facilitate the outings - would you like to be part of the organising team?  You could help as a minibus driver, you could suggest and plan a destination and guide us, or you could be a back-up-team member, who comes along, helps collect people from their homes and make sure they have a helping hand when getting on and off the mini bus.  Our first meeting to organise this year's SOS is for Wednesday, 18th May at 7.30pm in Room A.  (Please note this meeting has been rearranged in order to allow folk to attend the Moderator's Report on his travels to the Tsunami region taking place on Thursday 19th May in Church House.)

^   GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER

Today Sunday 15th May (Pentecost Sunday) an historic and unprecedented prayer event is being held from 3.00pm to 5.30pm in the grounds of Stormont Estate, as part of the 1st Global Day of Prayer.  The event will include praise and prayers for our nation and for the world.  This is an initiative originating from South Africa which has grown rapidly over three years to the point in 2004 where on a Sunday in May an estimated 22 million people gathered in over 50 nations for a simultaneous act of prayer for their nations and continent.  This year it is hoped to encompass the globe.  The event is being organised in Ireland by Transformations Ireland – a group of church leaders from a variety of traditions who have been praying and working together to promote prayer and unity in the church in N Ireland.  There will be no charge for attending the event.  Further information is available from www.transformations-ireland.org or Transformations Ireland, telephone 07841 096 571.

^   OVERWHELMED – TSUNAMI and BEYOND

This event will be held in Church House, Thursday 19th May, 7.30pm

Reports from the Moderator on his travels to the Tsunami region and from the Church of North India, Tearfund and Christian Aid will be presented to show how money raised is helping people whose lives were overwhelmed by the tsunami.  There will also be a focus on the ‘Make Poverty History’ campaign.

‘GET A LIFE’ FOLLOW UP …

TUESDAY 24TH MAY, 7.30PM

BALLYHENRY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Some of our Rosemary delegates who attended the conference last August will not be able to attend and we invite members of the congregation and leaders of organisations and members of Session to go, so that they may get the benefit of this one-off evening with interesting speakers.

“Get A Life Follow Up” is about sharing ideas and encouraging one another in meaningful worship, authentic fellowship and effective witness.  Benefit from the experience of one of the invited speakers, hear first hand reports and see video stories from other congregations in your area.  No booking is required – just turn up to follow up!

     Speakers …

~ ALAN REID               (2 parishes Canonbie/Liddesdale, Scottish Borders)
