PRAYER FOCUS

We will remember in our prayers Sunday School Teachers and Leaders of Organisations as they prepare for the start of a new session of activities.  Give them the strength and guidance to accomplish all they set out to achieve.

PRAYER FOCUS – JAMAICA

The effects of Hurricane Dean have been devastating, especially for the eastern and southern areas of Jamaica.  The hurricane claimed the lives of four people in the country and many buildings and communities were either totally or partially destroyed by the heavy winds and storm surges with waves as high as 50 feet.  Roads and bridges were also damaged and many people had their water and electricity supplies cut off.  The agricultural sector too was severely affected, with many crops, especially bananas and vegetables being destroyed.  Initial reports conducted by the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Island (UCJCI) indicate that approximately 40 of their buildings (churches, manses, schools) have been affected.  Most of the damage to the buildings has been to roofs, but there has also been other structural damage, windows and doors blown out, as well as damage due to flooding.  The UCJCI anticipate that the cost of repairs, while not reaching the level experienced from Hurricane Ivan in 2004, will be significant.  Prayer Points –

·        Those affected by the hurricane across the Caribbean area.

·        UCJCI as they deal with the damage caused by the hurricane to their properties.
