^   PRAYER FOCUS:

Indonesia is particularly sensitive to the effects of climate change which this year have been compounded by El Nino.  Recent widespread flooding in Jakarta is reckoned to be the worst ever to hit the capital leaving perhaps hundreds of thousands of people homeless and bringing much of the city to a standstill.  With the prospect of more heavy rain it is feared that disease and the availability of clean water will become a problem.

     Prayer Points –

·        The rains to end so that floodwater will recede and for the government to finally take long overdue action to improve the city’s drainage facilities.

·        All victims of the flooding, that they might soon be able to return to their homes, and for the Indonesian Fellowship of Churches as they channel practical help to those who need it.

While the west of the country is suffering from flooding, Timor and Sumba, in the more arid south-east of Indonesia, are facing drought conditions.  At the peak of the short growing season there has been barely any rain this year.  This means no opportunity yet to plant rice which needs plenty of water to grow.  Maize crops are also being ravaged by locusts.

Prayer Points –

·        That there may yet be sufficient amounts of rainfall to plant crops, for them to grow well.

·        PCI’s partner churches, GMIT and GKS  as they seek to provide help and support to their communities.
