^   PRAYER FOCUS FOR THE WEEK

We will remember in our prayers the Men’s Fellowship.

^   PRAYER FOCUS: WORLD DEVELOPMENT

G8 finance ministers meeting in London in the past week agreed to write off debts totalling £22bn owed by 18 countries, mainly in Africa.  Anti-poverty campaigners have welcomed this decision but want it extended to include more nations.  The BBC reports that: “Nine other countries should benefit from 100% debt relief within 12-18 months.  After that, 11 more countries could be eligible to join if they meet targets for good governance and tackling corruption.  The total package … could be worth over $55bn.”  Give thanks that through the Make Poverty History Campaign ordinary people around the world are forcing G8 leaders to listen to consider what can be done to reduce the scourge of world poverty.  Pray that the G8 leaders will resolve unreservedly to take effective action to address the underlying causes of world poverty, including cancellation of the international debts of the world’s poorest countries.
