>   PRAYER FOCUS: PAKISTANI/INDIAN KASHMIR

Heavy snow and rain are causing misery for the survivors of last autumn’s earthquake who do not yet have adequate shelter.  Night-time temperatures can plunge well below freezing and many of the tents that have been distributed are not strong enough to withstand the harsh Himalayan winter.  Villages are being cut off as the bad weather stops relief flights from taking off and triggers landslides.  Tearfund’s relief team has finished distributing tool kits and materials for shelters.  Many families received these kits just in time to protect themselves from the bad weather.  Now the team are distributing water purification tablets and building temporary toilets and water systems.  Future projects will focus on education.  Please pray for all those struggling to stay warm and dry; pray against respiratory infections such as pneumonia which are on the increase.

>   LATIN LINK APPEAL (ROSEMARY GIBSON)

We will be taking this appeal during the month of January.

Envelopes can be obtained from either the pews or the church porch, also copies of the latest “Prayer Letter” available.

>   N.I. PUBLIC ACCESS DEFIBRILLATION PROJECT (NIPAD)

New hope for Cardiac Arrest victims in North and West Belfast.

…Are you interested in becoming a cardiac First Responder trained to saves lives?

…An opportunity for each of us to make a difference is being given by a new research project organised by the Departments of Cardiology and Public Health at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

…This project will find out how we can rescue more people who sustain sudden cardiac arrest outside hospital.  We have trained approximately 700 volunteers to use Automated Defibrillators (machines used to shock the heart rhythm to normal).  This involves one simple 3-hour training session during working hours.  Following this, the volunteers will be fully certified First Responders, enabled to save lives and make a difference in the community.  Each person trained is given a defibrillator for 1 week in the North and West Belfast area.  This will not affect your day to day work.  No previous medical knowledge is required.  The project is fully supported by the Ambulance Service.

·        All volunteers are welcome; all that is required is a driving licence and access to a car.

·        If you are interested, pick up a form from the church porch.
