Previous Ministers



The V. Rev. Dr. John Dunlop was minister of Rosemary Presbyterian Church in North Belfast between 1978 and 2004. Prior to being the minister of Rosemary Church he worked with the United Church in Jamaica for ten years. He was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland in 1992-93.

In 1985/86 he delivered the Warrack Lectures on "Preaching in the Midst of Conflict" in the Theological Faculties of the Universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Glasgow and St. Andrews. In 1989 he was an Eisenhower Fellow.

In June 1993 he received the "Cultural Traditions Award", in recognition of his "established and continuing contribution to debate on cultural diversity within Northern Ireland".

In 2002 he received the E.H. Johnston Memorial Trust award from the Presbyterian Church in Canada.

In the 2004 New Year's honours list, he was awarded the CBE "for services to the community in Northern Ireland".

His book "A Precarious Belonging: Presbyterians and the Conflict in Ireland" was published by Blackstaff Press in May 1995.

Other positions: Co-convener of the Presbyterian Church's "Church and Government Committee" until 2003; chairman of the Joint Independent Group for Study and Action (JIGSA); a member of the Irish Inter Church Meeting and of the (Irish/USA) Inter Church Committee on Northern Ireland and of Cavehill Primary School Board of Governors. He is a Patron of "Wave Trauma Centre", the "Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education" and "Habitat for Humanity". Until recently he was a member of the Board of (British-Irish) Encounter.

John Dunlop is married to Rosemary, a Marriage Counsellor with "Relate"; a founder member of the Corrymeela Community; one time chair of Belfast YMCA and currently a member of the Board of the Mater Hospital Trust. They have a daughter and a son and four grand children.
